All this time, The Great Commission of Jesus is simply translated as winning souls for God, which ultimately is to increase the number of congregation or gather as many people as possible in the church. But the fact is The Great Commission of the King has a much deeper meaning than that.
Jesus came to them and said: I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth! Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with you always, even until the end of the world” (Matthew 28:18-20 CEV).
Let us see what the actual contents of the great commission are:
1. Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples.
The real purpose of The Great Commission is to change nations, “Make all nations to become the Lord’s disciples.” God has established the church to be Heaven’s agents of change, the place to change a sinner to become the Lord’s disciple.
What are the characteristics of the Lord’s disciples?
• Have an open ear and keen to hear God’s voice
• Have an obedient heart to the voice of God (not rebellious)
• Have a clear vision for the future/divine destiny (no turning back)
• Have the words that can encourage the weary (change people)
“The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned. The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back” (Isaiah 50:4-5 KJV).
The church is called not to gather people but to change people to become disciples of the Lord, then they will be used by God to transform others and ultimately transform the nations. The Church cannot be used by God to transform the nations if the congregation has not become “disciples of the Lord”.
2. Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
This is not just a matter of immersing people into the water and baptize them with ‘in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit’ formula but what Jesus meant was baptizing them in the fullness of the Godhead, so that their entire humanities are immersed in His divinity.
They no longer live humanly, but break through all the limitations of humanity and live in His infinite Divinity.
As long as the church continues to walk humanly, the church cannot be used by God to transform the nations, but if every congregation is immersed in the fullness of the Godhead, the church is ready to change the nations!
3. Teach them to do everything I have told you.
After the congregation has the nature of a learned and no longer constrained by all humanity, then the congregation is ready to be taught do everything that God had commanded to the leader.
The leader begins to transfer all passion and longing that the Lord has put in his heart to be realized by the entire congregation.
Church who carries out The Great Commission of the Lord Jesus will bring impact to her neighborhood, her city, her nation, and ultimately nations. There will be an extraordinary inclusion of God that will enable us to complete this Great Commission of the King.
