From year after year we celebrate Christmas and continue to remember that a child has been born for us. That’s why every year, we always see the picture of baby Jesus in a manger. In our mental image, God has given a child to us. But the Bible says that God not only has given a child, but also a son and the government shall be upon His shoulder. This means that God not only gave a Child but a King.
“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:5).
Our knowledge of Jesus Christ must continue to grow, from a child to a son and eventually we’ve got to know Him as a King.
How our knowledge of Jesus Christ can grow until we get to know him as a King ? Here are the process:
1. He is the wonderful Counselor.
After Jesus was ‘born’ in our hearts as ‘a child,’ He will begin to manifest Himself as a wonderful Counselor. Whenever we need help, He can always give a wonderful counsel so that we find a way out.
“Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Hebrews 4:14-16).
He is called a wonderful Counselor because:
- He has been glorified. He has passed into the heavens.
- He can also feel our afflictions and infirmities.
- He has gone through all the struggles and has already won.
- He always opens an access to help us.
We need to know and experience Him as a wonderful Counselor.
2. He is the mighty God.
After knowing Jesus as the wonderful counselor, we have to grow and get to know Him as the mighty God.
He is not only God who can give counsel and teaching, but also can stand on our side and fight for us, so we can win all the battle with Him, because He is the mighty and powerful God.
We need to know and experience Him as the mighty God.
3. He is the everlasting Father.
After knowing and experiencing Him as a wonderful Counselor and mighty God, He will begin to manifest Himself as the everlasting Father. We began to realize that he is not just a Counselor and God for us, but also a Father because He actually functions as a Father for us. We start to get closer and unite with Him. Any suspicions against Him that have been there will begin to fade. We more and more believe in Him and give our lives into His hands.
4. He is the Prince of Peace.
After we recognize and experience Him as the wonderful counselor, mighty God, and everlasting Father, finally we truly realize that He is the Prince of Peace for us.
At this level we truly give our whole lives to serve the King, ruled by the King, live to represent the King so we become ambassadors of His Kingdom.
Good luck in growing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ and Merry Christmas 2013. God Bless!
