I am Who I am

God revealed himself to Moses as “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:1-15), which in English translation from the Amplified Bible translates as “I AM WHO I AM, AND WHAT I AM, AND I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE” (verse 14).

I am Who I am
I am Who I am

We must know God as “I AM WHO I AM” that has meaning:

1. We must know God as He is.
We often cannot know God as He is because we try to know God from our own experience point of view that is often filled with inner conflict, thus God is always reduced before us.

That’s what happened in the life of Moses. He had bitter experiences in the past, in which he attempted to free the Israelites from the oppression of the Egyptians with its own power and the people of Israel even refused him. Moses became disillusioned, and from that experience, God began to be lessened in his life.

So when in time God called Moses to truly liberate the people of Israel, Moses refused. Until finally the Lord said: “I am who I am.” God wants to say: “Moses, do not look at Me from your experience of failure! I am not you! I am who I am! Don’t put Me in your box of inner conflict, recognize the existence of ME as ME. See the ME as ME. I am a God, from eternity to eternity I AM STILL GOD, and I AM THE GOD WHO IS GREAT AND AWESOME!”

LET GOD STILL BE GOD! FROM FOREVER TO FOREVER HE IS STILL GOD! HE IS STILL A BIG GOD whatever our experience is. His greatness and AWESOMENESS are not influenced by our experience. HE WILL STILL BE A BIG AND GREAT GOD!

2. We must know God as our spiritual Father knows HIM.
“And God said moreover unto Moses, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, the LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you: this is my name for ever, and this is my memorial unto all generations.” (verse 15)

God introduced Himself and He wanted to be known as the God of Moses’ father, as the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. That means He wants us to know Him as our spiritual father does. If we do not know God as our spiritual father does, we will continue to have a tendency to know God from our inner conflicts that exist.

First of all, God revealed Himself to Abraham; He gave His promise, He accompanied, blessed and protected Abraham. Then Abraham passed down the God that he knew to Isaac, Isaac began to know God as Abraham did. And after Isaac was an adult, God declared Himself to him as: “I am the LORD God of Abraham.”

So Isaac really knew God as it was known by Abraham, and because He knew the God of Abraham, then as God made a covenant with Abraham, God also made a covenant with Isaac. As God was with Abraham, God was with Isaac as well, as God blessed Abraham, God blessed Isaac as well.

Furthermore, God of Isaac passed it down to Jacob, after Jacob was an adults, the same God declared to him as: “I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac” (Gen. 28:13). And now the God of Abraham and Isaac became the God of Jacob as well. And so God wants to be known as the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob forever. That is His name forever.

He wants us to know God as our spiritual father does. So that the God of our Father will be ours.

3. We must know God as He will be for us.
“I WILL BE WHAT I WILL BE”
We must not and cannot know God from our past experiences, but we must know Him as He will be for us. He is the God of our future.

God revealed Himself to Moses as God who would be like Moses needed, and God would be like Moses trusted. And God really became like that for Moses.

At the time the Israelites went out of Egypt, they were pursued by the Egyptian soldiers, and in front of them was the Red Sea. Moses needed God to rescue him, Moses needed God to be the God who fought for him. And Moses believed God would be like he needed and trusted. That’s why Moses said unto the people:

” Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever. The LORD shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace” (Exodus 14:13-14).

And God really transformed into Saviour by splitting the Red Sea, and became the Lord who fought for his people by killing all the Egyptian soldiers. The LORD was like Moses needed and trusted.

If you know God as He is and know God as He is known by your spiritual father, God will be as you need and God will be as you believe. I am who I am. Amen!
