It turned out that God has provided the easier and cheaper way for his people to get bread that will satisfy their spiritual hunger, because they have been paying for something that is not bread.

“Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not?” (Isaiah 55:2)
This question that God asked to His people needs to be a deep reflection for us all (Isaiah 55:1-5). There are many Christians pay so much for something that is not bread which is not satisfied them.
They are willing to pay any price to attend seminars or crusades everywhere, even go to Israel, hoping to satisfy their spiritual thirst. But what do they get? They just get a ‘bubble gum’ instead of bread. Chewing gum only gives sweetness for a while but not satisfying.
That’s the picture of the spiritual food that had been pursued by people. They chase or bring in speakers who can provide ‘temporary sweetness’ for their lives, but never actually satisfy their spirits.
They pay full price for that ‘bubble gum’ until all resources are run out, so when God confronts them to the truth, they are reluctant to pay the price. But thank God, God is good; He gives a way to those who are truly hungry and thirsty for Him and His righteousness,
“Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price” (Isaiah 55:1).
God will give spiritual food and drink that satisfy and refresh their lives without paying the proper price. It is given free of charge or if you have to pay the price, the price is very cheap. How?
“Hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live!” (Isaiah 55:2b-3a)
The way is only one: Listen and do what God says. If they listen and do what God says, then they will: Enjoy the most delicious food and have life. They will enjoy food and drinks that satisfying and give life, without any effort to pay the price. So what exactly that God wanted them to hear and do?
“Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David” (Isaiah 55:3).
This was what God wanted them to do: Living in the covenant to God according to His covenant with David. This means, they must live in covenant with David, so that eventually they will be absorbed in covenant with God.
When they are absorbed in the covenant with David, they automatically are absorbed in the same covenant with the Lord. When they are absorbed in covenant with David, these will happen:
1. They will inherit the promises that God has given to David.
2. They will inherit the Kingdom’s blessings and the power of the Kingdom that God has given to David.
3. They will inherit nations like David.
They will not experience any struggle anymore because they inherit what God has given to David, and inheritance can not be purchased, inheritance is given to people who have a covenant relationship.
But why must David?
“Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people” (Isa. 55:4).
Since God had established, functioned, and positioned David as a witness/pattern, to be a king/leader, a government/that gave direction, teaching and reproofs of instruction (Prov. 6:23). David had been established by God to be a pattern to be followed by all the people of Judah.
In the same way, that’s what God is doing now. God has shaped, established, functioned, and positioned some people to be patterns that can be followed by everyone.
If you can find that pattern, then follow him, absorbed in a covenant relationship with that person, and then you will receive the inheritance without any payment.
You will enjoy delicious and abundant food and will live, without so much effort. Grace, blessing, and power will automatically become part of you because that is the inheritance that you received as a result you are connected in a covenant with a person that God has set as a pattern. This is the easier and cheaper way.
